Student Voice and Problems of Journalism

Welcome to Start and Finish News

In Spring 2017, I had the pleasure of sitting in for journalism teacher Kevin Coen at Springfield High School in Vermont. I was there for the last quarter, about half of this semester-long course. With Kevin, the students had delved into press function (via the Constitution and the market), press responsibility (the fourth estate), and practical skills. For their final assessments, the class and I used a project-based learning model to explore student questions about journalism and its impacts. Ari and Alexus graciously agreed to share their work on corporate vs. independent news. I extend my gratitude to these fine students, for this and for their devotion to the project.
